There is a timeline built into the Bible.

It is not subject to fuzzy guesswork. It is not a matter of interpretation. The verses which contain each record of the number of years for specific historical events are plainly stated.

In the book of Genesis chapters 5 and 11, Bible passages count the years in plain language from the time of Adam's creation, giving the number of years from the birth of one patriarch to the birth of the next patriarch, and from that patriarch to the next one, and so on from Adam to Abraham. See timeline from Adam to the flood

Adding these years together gives a specific number of years between Adam and the flood, between the flood and Abraham,See timeline after the flood to the Exodus.

Other verses in Genesis and other Old Testament books, which are noted within this site, give the number of years between events in the life of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, the entering in to Egypt, and down to the building of the Temple in the time of Solomon.

From there, the years of each king's reign both in the northern and the southern kingdoms are given down to the time that Judah is brought into captivity in Babylon. The time of the capitivity is also given in years down to the decree by Cyrus for the Israelites to return to Judea and Jerusalum.

The  Myth  of  Progress

The prevailing world view underlying most learned fields is a philosophy of progressivism.

It supposes that all things are getting better, that the world has always been moving from the simple to the complex, that with the influence of civilization, man is leaving behind a more brutal nature and an ignorant mindset and evolving into a more peaceful and cooperative being.

Institutions, networking, associations for overseeing the learned fields all are involved in helping along this progression and ensuring that other, unenlightened views are left in the past to fade away.

The Bible does not support this view.

Man's fallen nature is not shown as a product of environmental molding or past evolutionary stages.   Rather it is plainly stated to be a product of choice which put man into a permanent state of slavery to sin.

No institution or organization of man can save him from this state .   He must, according to the Bible, come to God for redemption through Jesus Christ.
